A daily series, Connect! Unite! Act! seeks to create face-to-face networks in each congressional district. Groups regularly socialize but also get out the vote, support candidates and engage in other local political actions that help our progressive movement grow and exert influence on the powers-that-be. Visit us at Daily Kos every morning at 7:30 A.M. Pacific Time to see how you can get involved. The comment thread is fun and light-hearted, but we're serious about moving the progressive political agenda forward. |

Would You Wear a Tech-Tattoo?

I’ve noticed lots of people wearing new trackers since Christmas, including fitbits and iWatches. Six months from now most of the fitbit trackers will be abandoned to a drawer, just as I eventually lost interest in mine. But what if you could have a steady stream of biometric information continually streamed from your body to your bluetooth device?
A tech tat is the middle ground between wearing a fitbit and having a chip permanently embedded under your skin. A temporary tattoo with electric ink is painted on the skin, tiny little hardware components are attached, and there you are… transmitting data. Future models might be as easy to apply as a band-aid.
The medical applications are intriguing. I can imagine detecting early signs of heart attack, stroke, or blood sugar imbalances with your smart phone beeping you dire warnings of your immenent demise… maybe even calling an ambulance if you’re unresponsive. Or imagine meeting an intriguing person (say, at NN16) and with an electronic high five you and your new friend ‘tap your tats’ together and exchange phone numbers, emails and even favorite playlists. Better yet, imagine a world without wallets, credit cards, ID’s or even passports. Your tech tat could even be the keys to your home and [driverless] car.
Of course, all pretense of privacy would be gone as well. But isn’t it already?
