A daily series, Connect! Unite! Act! seeks to create face-to-face networks in each congressional district. Groups regularly socialize but also get out the vote, support candidates and engage in other local political actions that help our progressive movement grow and exert influence on the powers-that-be. Visit us every morning at 7:30 A.M. Pacific Time to see how you can get involved. The comment thread is fun and light-hearted, but we're serious about moving the progressive political agenda forward.

The orange pinpoints are the location of each organized group of Kossacks.

Is Your First Name Democratic or Republican?

I had a serious diary about MSNBC's new lineup worked up for today, but when I ran across this in yesterday's Open Thread I thought it would be way more fun for a Friday. But do prepare to be quizzed on the new MSNBC shows for next week (meaning, brush up on your Ronan Farrow paternity issues).

Would you guess that your given name identifies you more as a Democrat or a Republican? Does your first name statistically make it more likely to have guns in your household, regular church attendance, or a college degree? A political polling and research firm has broken down the following characteristics of registered voters based on your first name:

Plug in your name here and see!
(The most Democratic-leaning name gets some kind of prize)
There are 166,480 registered voters with the first name Colleen.
52.3% are registered Democrats.
51.7% have a gun in their house. (Just a BB gun for me)
35.1% attend weekly religious services. (I used to be Catholic but I took pills for it)
56.8% have a college degree (I have a Master's degree)
If I change the spelling to Coleen I'm even more likely to have a gun on hand.

Have fun playing with this. I would have guessed that Thurston would be a solid Republican name, but no..... Joe Bob, however, did not let me down.

Speaking of given names, do you like yours? Mine is Irish for "girl," proving only that I had very observant parents, and despite constant mispronunciations I like it very much.

Rs vs dems
Yes, spelling matters
