The-Chinese-Year-of-the-Horse

Gung hay fat choy and happy Chinese New Year! 2014 is the year of the Wood Horse, which does not refer to a wooden rocking-chair horse but rather to Wood energy which is bold, dynamic, impulsive, quick-thinking and always moving forward. In Chinese astrology a Horse year is a fortunate and lucky one, where quick but well thought-out decisions will be rewarded. President Obama has already indicated that 2014 will be "the year of action" for him. And, at the risk of offending any Seahawks fans, it should also bode well for the Denver Broncos this Sunday.

On a global scale, expect some world economies to become stronger while others experience economic chaos and collapse. Under Horse’s strong influence there is no middle ground. (The time for middle-ground diplomacy and planning was last year in Water Snake 2013.) Anticipate extremes in stock markets, fluctuation of prices, and general chaos in all things financial. There will be wars, battles, and skirmishes all over the world.

Middle class economies are developing with emerging markets in many places including Egypt, Turkey, Brazil, and India. But there will also be protests for fair development, even wars. Peace can be restored in Wood Sheep year 2015 but Wood Horse 2014 will be a wild ride as the world changes, and changes fast.

As a little girl I didn't just love horses, I was a horse. When I'd get up in the morning I'd announce my horse name for the day and wouldn't answer to anything else. As Flicka or Fury I'd tuck one of Mom's scarves into my waistband as a tail and gallop about the room on my hands and knees, no doubt ruining many pairs of pants in the process. As a teen I'd find my way to the Indian reservation near San Bernardino where they rented out horses for a dollar an hour and, once you proved you wouldn't mistreat the horses, would let you take them out without a guide. I'd ride through the orange groves with the incredible sense of freedom and joy this solitude with a beautiful and powerful animal provided.
